San Louie: Call for submissions issue #5
COLOR us fantastic.
If you’re interested in contributing, head to your nearest home improvement store and pick up a paint chip (or several). You can select your chip at random, based on the name, the color, the fact that it reminds you of the dirt in the backyard of your childhood home, or because the shade of blue matches your grandmother’s hair. Your reasons are entirely your own. And you’re going to let this paint chip suggest a theme, subject, or vision to you. It doesn’t have to be about the chip itself, or paint, or color even, though it can be if you want it to.
DEADLINE: The deadline for your proposal is Sunday, July 31 by midnight.
ALL PROPOSALS:
Must be original pieces which have not have been published elsewhere. -- If you have not written/illustrated for San Louie in the past, the committee will need to see writing samples and portfolio urls. The only way around this is to send us the whole kit and caboodle instead of a proposal: submit a FINISHED article, illustration or photograph for consideration. If accepted, articles may be edited for length.
WRITERS:
Must give us a thorough, descriptive and as comprehensive an outline as you can generate. AND an estimated word count (we can’t guarantee you’ll get as much space as you like).
ARTISTS & PHOTOGRAPHERS:
Must submit a jpeg sketch AND an url to an example of the style you will use. Images are constrained to a square.
SEND YOUR PROPOSALS TO: http://sanlouie.submishmash.com/Submit
(Please don't email files to San Louie)
The next screen will ask for three things:
1. The title which should include the brand of paint and name/ number of the paint color. Also, please get more than one paint chip because we'd like to keep the chips that inspired our contributors.
2. Then you’re going to upload the document with your proposal.
3. A bio that is 50 words or less. The word count does not include your url.
ETC:
We want to publish as much great work as we can, but we're constrained to selecting proposals from 10 writers and 10 visual artists for Issue 5. If you’d like to submit multiple proposals you’re welcome to do so, though in order to accommodate as many contributors as possible it’s unlikely that any one contributor will be allowed to work on multiple projects. But if you’ve got a couple ideas knocking around in your head, we’d like to hear them. Just make sure that each idea receives its own proposal. We will announce the Issue 5 contributors within one week of receiving the final proposals on July 31.
Any questions/concerns can be sent to hello@sanlouie.com. Happy brain-storming!
